Ashcombe Crusaders picked up an emphatic victory over last year’s Champions Portishead winning by a maximum of 20 points to 0 recently.

Jim Creasey’s rink with Nigel Walker, and Terry Cottrell were 9-3 down after seven ends but the trio strode on to win 22-10.

Dave Wynne skipped with Mike Southwood and Tiger Kolasinski to a comfortable 23-15 win having won 11 of the 18 ends. Allan Corbett with Paul Barnes and Ian Mitchell led from the off winning 19-12 & Martin West, Julien Brown & Vice Captain Andy Evans won a very close encounter 19-16 thanks to a four on the 16th end.

John Mouland, Ben Benstead & Graham Wilcox had the largest victory winning 26-12 in a match that was never in doubt but the closest rink being the rink of Gordon Sansam, Alan Sheen and Steve Browning found themselves 11-8 down with two ends to go but thanks to a three and four scored on the last two ends came out victors at 15-11

The league is now hotting up and with one game to go the Championship looks to being going down to the last game of the season with local rivals Victoria next week

In what is proving to be a truly successful year the Knights travelled to Clevedon Promenade and came away with a 14-6 result. 

Wins for George Fews with Ray Counsell and Geoff Kinsey 20-15, Gordon Owen with Frank Bertram and Jason Capille blew their opponents away with a 30-11 rout. Graham Wilkinson with Dennis Carr and Les Cox used all their experience to win 18-10. The losing rinks were Roger Cox, Howard Calcutt, and Bob Blunden, after they were beaten 20-12, Steve Jackson, Tony Westren and Eric George 19-16, Roger Smith, Martin Field and Malcolm Elmer lost 24-12 but an overall score of 108-99 meant they left with a creditable victory.

These points have helped them to now be in a comfortable position in their quest for promotion to League One

Many of the teams at Ashcombe have changed over the last few years with a lot of new, enthusiastic young players coming through together with successful teams in the County Leagues and the future is very promising.
