Congresbury CC’s WEPL Bristol & North Somerset encounter with Bedminster Seconds is a “great chance to make history”, says Captain Justin Yau.

Yau and his team currently lead the WEPL Bristol & North Somerset with one game left of the season.

If the Congo get the win they will secure a place in the WEPL’s Prem 2 Bristol & Somerset for the first time ever next campaign.

And Yau said everyone in the side will give it their all to pick up the crown.

“I’m feeling pretty good to be honest,” he added.

“It’s unchartered territory and we have a great chance to make history at this wonderful club.

“I’m sure Saturday will have its ups and downs and it’ll be difficult to remain focused solely on our game as we will be keeping an eye on games around the league.

“We will give it everything and hopefully it’ll be enough to get us over the line.”

Yau is no stranger to picking up league titles when he captained Torquay to two championships before joining Congresbury in 2018.

Yau, who was with Torquay for nine seasons between 2008 and 2017, won the A Division in 2011 before leading his side to Devon Premiership four years later.

And Yau said leading Congresbury to the Prem 2 Bristol & North Somerset would be extra special and hailed the development by all the teams at the club.

“It’s a fantastic club and one which has been so welcoming since I’ve joined,” he added.

The progress over the last five, six years has been multi-faceted across the club from juniors through to the ladies' teams and men's teams.

“When I joined, we had some older colts who ended up moving to other clubs to understandably, pursue their careers. Others like Toby Lawrence, Jack Kearns and Will Eyres have stuck around and made great progress in the men’s teams and are now a critical part of Congresbury CC and hopefully they will continue to be for years to come.

“Our juniors' teams at under-11s / under-13s level have been winning leagues amongst strong competition in North Somerset and we have a ladies team performing well too.

“Once you also see the number of Dynamos and All-Stars coming through the club, it’s great to see so many positives from all angles which hopefully we can continue to build on for many years to come.”
