Weston-super-Mare CC secured their WEPL Bristol & Somerset status with an excellent four-wicket win at Shapwick & Polden last Saturday.

Winning the toss and bowling first, Weston produced an excellent start as Lachie Bailey bowled the dangerous Stephen Tinnion, followed next ball by Jack Broughton in identical fashion.

James Hayman was supported by Dougie Sharp before Bailey (3-25) picked up his third. Matt Knight 3-27 removed Calum Haggett on his first ball, held by Shabel Ahmed.

Debutant Harvey Richards removed Will Mason for LBW. Hayman, supported by Habberfield (14) recorded an excellent 100, before captain Chris Davidson (2-9) picked up two quick wickets, and Hayman's hit was caught by Davis Trego to give Richards (7.1-0-23-2) to leave Weston chasing 180.

Jack Press and Rob Turner helped Weston reach 25 before both fell in quick succession to Haggett and Hayman. Ahmed and Bailey rebuilt with Ahmed (20) hitting three beautiful boundaries before LBW.

Weston took 27 from Broughton's two overs, but Bailey (30) top edged immediately after drinks leaving Weston on 91-4.

Andy Fear (35 not out) and Davis Trego (33), put on 70 runs before Trego fell to Hayman (3-32), followed by Dexter Trego, with Weston slipping to 161-6. Chris Davidson (15 not out) joined Fear (35*) brought Weston home with eight overs to spare.

Weston face promotion chasers Golden Hill this Saturday at Devonshire Road.
