St Andrews men stayed in the running for promotion in the Weston & District Over-55 League with a close away victory over Victoria Vikings.

Both teams finished up on three rinks, but the 22-shot victory by Adrian Cooper, Geoff Sims and Brendan Duffy proved decisive as Saints won by three. They are second, 24 points behind Ashcombe Knights with two matches in hand, and two teams will go up to Division One.

It was a disappointing weekend for Saints women, holders of the Fear Cup, who never got going against Portishead RBL in this year’s final at Ashcombe, losing by 27 shots. However, with some up-and-coming players, the future looks bright for the county’s best-supported women’s club.

St Andrews men will be hoping to go one better than the women when they play Congresbury at Taunton this Sunday in the final of the Wedmore Plate. Congresbury are the holders, Saints won the Plate in 2017.
