Churchill CC were beaten by Bangladesh Smashers on Bank Hoilday Monday at Ladymead Lane.

The London-based visitors stopping off in Somerset en route to their tour of South Wales.

In an entertaining match the classy tourists, including ex-test match cricketer Mohammad Ashraful, made light work of the Churchill attack - the ball flyng to all parts of the Rec and through the hands of most of the fielders!

The Smashers attack made short work of the home side’s batting but everyone enjoyed themselves on what was a special day for the club.

Churchill CC Seconds returned to winning ways with a three wicket victory over Mark Seconds in Division Seven Blue last Saturday.

Having been invited to bat first Mark could muster only 110 all out from just 28 overs. Without Mike King’s 37 not out their innings would have completely fallen apart in the face of a sensational spell of bowling from seamer Jeremy Pearson who took a season’s best 7-20 from his seven overs.

In reply Richard Gatton and captain Dave Braitwaite gave their innings a solid start both scoring 21 in an opening stand of 40.

However, wickets fell at regular intervals with King (3-19) doing most of the damage and it was up to Jon Burdge and Mike Legg to steady the lower order and see their side home in the 29th over.

Churchill’s haul of 33 points places them in fifth place in the table just six points adrift of third placed Harptree with one fixture remaining.
