First XI captain Paddy Holyday said 2023 has been a “fantastic year” for all the teams at Uphill Castle CC.

The Firsts secured promotion to the Somerset Premier and won the Somerset Cup, the T20 Sunday reached the Somerset T20 final, the seconds won Proper Job Midweek League’s Division Two and a fourth team has been set up.

This year also marks the 130th anniversary of the club.

“It’s been a fantastic year,” Holyday said.

“Not only have the first team had success in the league and cup, the rest of the senior section has performed extremely well, highlighted by their string league positions.

“The Sunday T20 side reached the semi-finals in their first year and the midweek XI won the Division Two title at the first attempt.

“Our junior section is also going from strength to strength and will be introducing our Fourth XI back next year into league cricket.”

Holyday said he is hopeful the success can help the team going forward in the future.

“Hopefully with the First XI’s promotion we can attract some more high quality players into the side,” he said.

“We will be looking to compete at the top end of the table again and have already started putting plans in place for 2024.”
