Carol Edlin’s mixed-fours team claimed victory in the first of a number of Internal Finals held at Clarence Bowls Club recently.

Edlin with Martin Ford, Karol Dibble and Clive Robinson came out 18-12 winners over Mike Fry, Shirley Searle, Dave Cook and Vanessa Fairall.

In the ladies two-wood pairs it was a competitive encounter all the way up until the 14th. Christine Hooper and Mary Davison won four straight ends, taking a five-shot lead. Despite dropping a single shot on each of the final three-ends they still ran out champions by two shots over Jan Anning and Jill Coles. 

Gordon Leigh stormed to victory in the over-70s singles, taking the Championship by a whopping 16-shots over Mick Edlin.

Doug Grier and Allan Cord won the four-wood pairs after beating Dave Cook and Mac Mellow by six-shots. 

In the ladies first-time singles between Angie Skudder and Jan Field it was Skudder who ran out champion by 13-shots. 

Cord and Martin Harryman picked up two then dropped one on the penultimate end before scoring a decisive three to crown  them men’s two-wood pairs champions over Nigel Martin and Rob Skudder. 

The Edlins finished six-shots ahead of Ford and Mary Davison in the mixed pairs.

In the ladies championship Skudder dominated from the start before gradually pulling away, until she reached the magic 21 to beat Carol Edlin and secure the championship. 

In the men’s championship Pete Williams took a two from the first end but Mick Edlin hit back taking the next five-ends and a lead of nine before eventually reaching 21 after 20 ends to regain his crown. 

In the Ladies Handicap between Skudder and Christine Hooper was well in the balance up until the 18th and 19th as Skudder grabbed herself a 10-shot lead before she reached her magic 21 four ends later to become champion. 

In the men’s first-time singles Gordon Leigh eased past Nigel Martin to win the championship by 12-shots.

In the Men’s Handicap Mike Fry needed 26 to win the match from Graham Andrews. 

In the men’s triples Grier, Peter Franklin and Harryman made a flying start to take the first five-ends. Williams, Mike Samways and Dave Clifford struck back with a four, but it was not enough as Grier, Franklin and Harryman won by six.
