Saturday's Pro Shop Stableford at Brean Golf Club saw Nick Rich go one better than the previous weekend's runner up spot he managed in last Sunday's monsoon.

His superb effort of 44 points in more favourable conditions on Saturday gave him a one stroke victory over Andrew Pound who had led for the much of the morning with his 43 point return.

Third place went to Martin Kennelly who also topped the 40 point barrier with his round of 41.

The only countback of the day was required to decide the final two prizes in 4th and 5th.

Andrew Smallwood had the better back nine of the pair of 39's that were posted and edged out Kris Postlethwaite over the back nine for the higher finishing position.

On Sunday some much tougher blustery conditions faced the competitors in the second Pro Shop Stableford of the weekend.

Adam Thompson was the clear winner with a score of 40 points leaving him 4 clear of his nearest challengers.

Tony Richards and Tony McCann both scored 36 points with Richards winning the back nine countback over McCann to take second place.

In other news in local golf, the Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA are pleased to announce a new sponsor for their annual Matchplay Championship.

When they say new, it is more of a returning one as Carlsberg Marstons will again become the title sponsor of the popular event for the coming season.

Current Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA Captain Mark Singleton has been instrumental in arranging the deal with company representative Dave Glew and an agreement is now in place to re-start the Carlsberg Marstons Matchplay very soon.

Singleton said: "We’ve been in partnership with Carlsberg Marston at our club ever since the merger, they’ve been a great company to deal with and it has been an honour to play a part in the agreement to get them back as the sponsor for our Matchplay event."
