Les Byrne and Gareth Davies claimed The John Smith Trophy, which is played to remember the late Nigel Hodges, at Brean Golf Club recently.

Bryne and Davies were two of 40 golfers which took the course while Mike Hurman was enlisted to help out with drawing the cards.

Early leaders were Murray Parsons and Millie Jones, with a combined score of 73, but Dave Bradley, who had one of two scores on the day in the 40s, was drawn with Dave Mann, and gave them the lead with 76.

Davies had the best individual score of the morning and his card of 41 points was one of the last ones to be drawn out. Byrne's 35 points was paired with Davies and once all four back nines were counted up, the countback for victory fell in favour of Davies and Byrne. Roger Broom and Nathan Pickering finished on 73, but lost out to Parsons and Jones on countback on the back nine for third place.

Just under a third of the field ventured for The Tom Childs Memorial Flagon Sunday but it was Barry Roe who celebrated victory after he completed his 20th hole of the day, courtesy of the seven shots he had to use.

Connor Thompson, his brother Adam and Scott Miles all shared second.
