Uphill Castle Cricket Club celebrated a hugely successful season and their 130th anniversary at their annual club dinner last month at Hornets Rugby Club.

Chairman Mike Holyday welcomed the guests for the evening, Mark Frith (president) and Jon Mayo (Weston-super-Mare CC chairman), before addressing the players and members at the event.

The main emphasis was on what a great season it was for the club, with the Firsts gaining promotion back to the Somerset Premier League and also winning the Somerset Cup at the Country Ground in Taunton.

The other senior sides also competed well in their respective divisions, while the Sunday XI made the league semi-final, and the Midweek XI won the Proper Job Midweek League Division Two Title. 

After dinner, the awards ceremony began. Up first, was captain Paddy Holyday to hand out the Firsts awards. Overseas batsmen Finn Churchward had already been presented with his Player of the Year award as he had to travel home for his club season in Australia. Fellow new signing Himesha Halneththige was awarded Players Player.

Seconds captain Craig Grabham was up next to present the awards. Nasir Ghafori picked up both the Player of the Year award and Players Player of the Year after a stellar season with ball. 

The final captain up was new Thirds captain Stu Butson and he presented the Player of the Year to Dave Wilcox, while Butson was voted to receive Players Player of the Year.

To finish of the playing awards, Charlie Huke was awarded the Young Player of the Year.

To close the awards for the evening, Chairman Mike Holyday returned to present the off-field accolades to Butson, Rob Skeen, Pete Frake and Gary Huke after they were awarded the Special Award for the season after tireless work to improve the junior section at the club

Kirsten Morris picked up the Clubwoman of the Year before the final award of the evening was Clubman of the Year and went to Paddy Holyday for his relentless work in driving the club forward to the position it is currently in on the field

To close the evening, Frith awarded Mike Holyday with a bottle of port to thank him for all his hard work across a great season for the club.
