Weston super Mare RFC Vet's 48-7 Blakebears RFC

Weston RFC Vets took to the field last Friday to take on Blakebears RFC in a friendly match.

The Blakebears put in a spirited performance despite losing 48-7 against a very strong Weston Vets side.

It was a very strong Weston 'All Stars' team with a few familiar past Bears player's among them.

Kick off was taken an the game thundered into action with some quick hands but knocked on resulting in the first of many scrums. Weston were quite an opposition for the mighty Bears pack.

Neil Berryman and Jack Bennet started in the front row with Paul Sussex and Mongo reunited in the second row.

It took Weston 15 minutes before they managed to penetrate a stoic Bears defence with direct running from their back line.

So at half time the score was only 15 - 0. During the second half pressure mounted and try's were scored by the opposition.

Jack Lewis put in some solid and direct running and tackling as well as Jack Carver who also put in a big shift both in attack and defence.

With Matthias Benischke on one wing and John on the other they both had some cracking run's and also put in some hard tackles stopping more tries.

Alex Thompson, Jamie Day, Michael Duffy, Ben Howden, Joe Leon Kearle all came on as rolling sub's during the game all putting in some big shifts.

Weston continued to add to their tally but despite that the Bears lineout worked very well, winning all the ball and some of Weston's.

As the final minutes ticked by and from within his own half, Ben Chandler stepped on the gas and ran in a well deserved try for Bears then converted by Bradley Palmer.

Full Time was blown and the game was over as Weston formed a long tunnel for the Bears to walk through and Bears formed a lot shorter tunnel for them.

Everyone in the Bears squad played their hearts out in this game for the Red and Black of Bears against a strong WsM side who played some fantastic rugby.
