Winscombe Bowls Club can look back on 2023 as one to remember after teams all across the board are celebrating a wonderful 12 months.

The highlight was the A team securing promotion to the Somerset County League Premier Divisions for the first time in their history.

From losing their first match on all three rinks and picking  up no points, to winning their last match and finishing top on shot difference to cap a remarkable year.

In the Weston & District over-55s, Winscombe, captained by Geoff Coombe, had a memorable season too.

The over-55s won the Knock-Out Cup was the highlight of their campaign after a single shot victory at Victoria. Their winners prize cheque was donated to SW Children’s Hospice.

At the Somerset Bowls Association Presentation Lunch Winscombe Bowling Club picked up two Trophies.

Club captain Chris Bryant and vice captain Dave Peakall received the John Durston Cup for being Champions of the Division One North while secretary Mike Adams finished runners-up in the County Secretaries competition to win the EM Trevor Cup.

On the back of their successes next year Winscombe will field a third team in the County League and a second team in the Weston over-55s Triples Leagues.
