Rex Mannings’ hat-trick helped Weston AFC progress in the Somerset Premier Cup after putting nine goals past Hengrove Athletic on Tuesday night.

The Seagulls were ruthless from start to finish with academy graduate Oscar Collins grabbing the first of the night after five minutes with his first senior goal after great work by Mannings.

The hosts made it two 10 minutes when Marlon Jackson latched onto James Morton’s ball to slot home from 12 yards.

Jackson got his second in the 35th minute with a penalty before the goalscorer turned provider when he found Mannings, who showed great skill to deceive his marker before thundering the ball home to make it 4-0 at half-time.

Mannings got his second in the 55th minute after unselfish play by Lloyd Humphries before getting his third from the spot 14 minutes later.

Collins made it seven in the 74th minute after placing the ball into the top corner after great work by Jason Pope.

Mannings grabbed his fourth seven minutes later after picking up Humphries long ball before firing home first-time.

There was still time for Pope to get in on the act when he unleashed a superb strike with the outside of his foot into the roof of the net to round off a fine night at The Optima Stadium.
