St Andrews men’s two teams will meet each other in the next round of the national over-60s double-rink competition after fine victories in the first round.

Particularly impressive was the performance of the B team, who, against Nailsea B, included four players making their club debuts – Rob Saddler, Derek James, Steve Jackson and Roger Cox.

The home rink, skipped by John Wright, took time to settle, but a seven on the 10th of the 18 ends put them ahead and they dominated the rest of their game to win by ten. Away, skip Martin Ford and three of the debutants started with a four and kept control, to finish seven up.

The A-team game, against Clevedon proved to be a very close encounter, with the home rink struggling and the away four always narrowly in front. It was decided on an extra end, played at St Andrews, with Saints edging home.
