Yatwell under-16s came up just short as they were beaten 29-22 by Chepstow in their first international fixture recently.

It took four minutes when Chepstow were rewarded for their efforts with a try out on the wing.

Yatwell took the lead after 20 minutes when fly-half Charlie Hayett brought the scores level before adding the conversion to put the hosts 7-5 ahead.

Chepstow added a second try six minutes later and went into half-time 10-7 ahead.

Yatwell went back in front after the break when hooker Flynn Cootes dived over the line.

The next score was Chepstow’s when a quick ball was moved wide from their own10m line to score out wide and they scored again by breaking through the centre of the pitch and then going round the outside.

The Welsh side then picked up a stray kick and a searing run up the outside saw them add another.

Yatwell regathered themselves for the final 15 minutes and scored from a quick, recycled ball that released Number Eight Ned Hill to crash over the line.

And with the last play of the game a ball to prop Phil Clarke saw him batter his way over the line to move Yatwell within seven points of the final score.
