Winscombe RFC were beaten 24-7 against Trowbridge in their latest Regional 2 Tribute Severn encounter last Saturday.
The Combe started brightly, and after kicking a penalty to touch set up a powerful driving maul that covered 20 metres before lock Tom Hawkins broke away to score the opening try. Centre Sam Dearsley added the conversion to put the hosts 7-0 ahead.
However, Trowbridge responded with two tries of their own through Dom Davey off driving mauls and despite some enterprising counter-attacks, Winscombe could not convert these into points and went into the half-time break 12-7 down.
The second period belonged largely to Trowbridge with their pack taking control of both line-out and scrum. They scored a further two tries through Sam Hales and Max Day to secure their bonus point and despite a spirited last 10 minutes played out inside their visitors 22 Winscombe were not to trouble the scoreboard again.
Following a short break, Winscombe travel to Keynsham in two weeks time.
