Winscombe RFC came away with a much deserved bonus point after their 34-11 win at Keynsham in their latest Regional 2 Tribute Severn encounter last Saturday.

The Combe started brightly and were soon putting pressure on Keynsham coming away with a Sam Dearsley penalty kick following a high tackle near the try-line.

A typically marauding break by Winscombe scrum-half Lewis Podapdec down the right flank then set up a useful scrum from which the ball moved swiftly to full-back Harry Power who offloaded and sent winger Will Powell in for the first try of the match.

This was soon followed by another converted try courtesy flanker Tom Broom who came into the line at speed and crossed beneath the posts.

Keynsham rallied shortly before half-time and crossed for a try of their own but went into the break 17-5 down.

The two teams traded penalties at the start of the second period before Winscombe took control of the game with two well-taken tries by wing Harry Brean and open-side flanker Oscar Browne, earning the bonus point. Centre Dearsley completed a perfect kicking display from the tee with both conversions.

Winscombe face a tough test at Gloucester’s Old Centralians this Saturday.
