Nailsea United manager Rikki Hutt says he can understand Uphill Castle's frustrations in their Uhlsport Somerset County League Premier game last Saturday.

With the score at 1-1, after Toby Yeates' first half opener for Uphill was cancelled early in the second half by Charlie Parsons,

The Castle seemed to have a goal denied after defender Matt Day's pass towards goal was adjusted to have been kept out by goalkeeper Rob Brown before Nailsea captain Mike Rowcliffe seemly won the ball back for a challenge for Ryan Ford to put the North Somerset outfit in front.

Mike Vaughan then grabbed a third in stoppage time to seal the 3-1 win.

Uphill Castle manager Anthony Askins said the game was changed by those "two big moments."

And Hutt said he would react same way they did if they were in the same position.

“From where I’m standing, I can’t see it go over the line,” he said.

“The reaction from the guys behind the goal probably suggested it’s over. Again, the referee is about 40/45 yards away from it. If he gives that he’s given it based on a blind decision.

“He doesn’t know if it’s over the line so he can’t give that. You can’t give something you can’t see. I understand the frustrations of Uphill and I would be the exact same if I was in their shoes.

“But at the end of the day you have got to accept it, it’s happened and move on. For me there was still another 30 minutes in that game, and they had opportunities where they could have gone on and got a second and won the game themselves.

“They didn’t do that, it’s very easy after the game to make excuses and complain about decisions that didn’t go your way, but you still had time in the game to make a difference and they didn’t do that. I think we deserved to win in the end.”

When asked what can be done to help referees and linesman, Askins said: It's difficult one, really. Obviously, the easy option would be for neutral linesman, which we haven't got because everyone knows trying to get new referees in is very, very difficult. Other than that, really, you're just looking at the clubs to be a little bit honest.

“You know we've, come up this season and to be fair, we've found in the Premier Division that that clubs linesman and things like that a lot, lot more honest, they're a lot more is played in the spirit of the game, and we've actually enjoyed it.

“There's been less aggravation around the game, if that makes sense than there was in the First Division. There seems to be a lot more respect in the Premier Division and things like that. Unfortunately, just didn't go our way today.”
