Woodspring Bowls Club fell just short after falling to a slender five-shot defeat against reigning Somerset Men’s County League Champions St. Andrews last Sunday.

Both teams were missing key players but, as in their last encounter, Woodspring made an incredible start and in the early stages took a shock lead.

Saints came back hard and at 10 ends they led by four shots and, despite the courageous efforts of Woodspring, they held on to claim victory.

Considering this is Woodspring’s first season this was a monumental achievement and one that, they as a team, will hope to continue to grow and improve on.

Further great news for the Milton Club was they also claimed two of the four rinks to claim four hard earned points.

The best performance came from the Corbett team, which featured Trevor Puddy, Stone, and Captain Westren notched a superb 29-15 victory away from home, with special praise for Puddy who led excellently.

The other win came at Woody where the West team gelled really well to win by seven shots 22-15. Martin West was aided by Smith, Capille and Brown, with Jason Capille having a particularly good game.

Overall this was a superb effort from Woodspring and they will be hoping for even better things in their next match against Nailsea in the New Year.
