Uphill Castle manager Anthony Askins hailed his side's 2-1 victory at Worle as their "biggest win" of their Uhlsport Somerset County Premier season so far this afternoon (Saturday).

After a goalless first half, the game sprung into life when substitute Toby Jones picked the ball up from Scott Timberlake's pass, he beat his man before firing it across Uphill goalkeeper Ryan Scott and into the back of the net in the 69th minute.

Moments later captain Jack Askins was sin-binned for dissent but the loss of their skipper only spurred Uphill on and they found an equaliser six minutes later from the penalty spot. Worle goalkeeper Alex Matter brought down Aidan McKenna and up stepped Dan Thomas to slot the ball into the bottom corner, leaving Matter rooted to the spot.

Robbi Maggs hit the post from Jack Hodrien's corner as the match seemed to be heading for a 1-1 draw before the Castle scored a later winner.

McKenna's teasing cross at the back post was met by substitute Joe Eyles to head past Matter and spark wild celebrations behind the goal and on the Uphill bench to secure the come from behind victory at the Recreation Ground.

"Definitely the biggest win of the season so far," Askins said

"You've got to turn that around at some point and to do it here just before Christmas, it's a massive lift for us, a massive lift for us.

He added: "I think it was two quality teams just short on confidence. I thought we saw that a lot, both quite hesitant to go at each other. It opened up a little bit at the second half probably because the performance hasn't been quite as well, the the most pleasing bit was the way we dug in which we haven't done at times this season.

"The little moments went our way I thought and probably what got us through the game that and and the grit and the heart from the boys I thought was unbelievable."

Askins said he thought it would be one of those days when Worle scored but hailed the character by his side to claim their first triumph in six games in all competition and move three points clear of the relegation zone.

"Yes I did, when it went in. I thought that was probably the first bit of quality in the match was their goal," he added.

"I thought he took it excellently, a great finish. I thought we were going to be undone 1-0 by the one bit of quality in the match. We got back bizarrely. Jack's sinbin put us back on the front foot with 10 men a little bit and started to look a little bit longer and into the wide areas, which is where we wanted to try and get people in anyway. It paid off."

Worle caretaker manager Darren Down hailed the performance his side produced after their previous game with Timsbury Athletic, which ended in a 10-0 defeat the Recreation Ground.

The week also saw Worle let manager Aaron Blakemore go after two wins in 13 league games and are now winless in their last five games in all competitions.

"Yeah a lot better than last week, that's for sure. I'm back here for the first time in five years as manager," Down said.

"I watched last week, it was pretty poor, so we knew we had to do a lot better today and dig in. We sat up a bit better and we knew we were in for a battle against a good side. I was pretty happy.

"Penalty, I thought was a bit harsh, but I was a long way away, couldn't really call it, but I can't be too displeased. Obviously the result is a bit gutting, but the performance from the boys was much better.

"We have brought in some experienced players back in, changed a few things around, set up a bit different.

"Obviously I wasn't in the hot seat last week I was this week so, I can't really comment too much about last week. But some real good character, lots to build on, lots to go forward, lots of players to come back still. So, pretty pleased overall."
