Bob Flaskett said his last day as Weston AFC head groundsman was "emotional" but added that he will not be "walking away" from the club.

Flaskett, who announced his retirement in November after 20 years with the Seagulls, said his last game would be Boxing Day's game against Weymouth.

And following the 3-2 defeat on Tuesday, Flaskett said it was a difficult day but confirmed he will always be on hand to help, having taken up an advisory position within the club.

"It was pretty hard, pretty emotional," he said.

"Meeting up with the chairman again, Paul Bliss and all the nice things that have been said on the internet and the club have been fantastic to me. It was a bit emotional.

"It's difficult. I'm not going to be walking away, I'm still going to be around. I have got to teach the new groundsman Sam Trego a few things. But I'm still going to be around. But I would like to add that the club have been really good to me.

"They had a collection with the players and managers and all the staff and presented me with a £400 holiday voucher, which I thought was absolutely fantastic, plus a bottle of a Bollinger champagne. I didn't expect anything.

"The club have been absolutely fantastic for me, Oli Bliss. My boss, they're keeping me on in some form of capacity that I can help out. I'll always be here to help out. I won't be going away.

"The thing is, is that the responsibility. There is a lot of stress that goes with it and people don't understand that it's not just a game of football this football club, it's a big club.

"We're getting big crowds and that means more revenue. We can't afford to have games off. It is a lot of pressure and that pressure, the initial pressure of worrying whether it's pouring rain on a Friday before a game and all that will be still there, but it won't be the same because I won't have that responsibility anymore.

"But that'll be one good thing. I can lie in the bed on a Friday night. And then not worry about it. It's not quite the same so, but yes, it was an emotional day for me, but I'm going to be still here. So, it's just it's the fact, really, that I'm not going anywhere."
