Cheddar manager Mike Dangerfield said his side’s win against Bishop Sutton in the Toolstation Western League Division One was a “brilliant end” to their recent run of results.

The Cheesemen reached seventh heaven after beating the league’s bottom side 7-0 at Bowdens Park on Boxing Day.

It was Cheddar’s first win in 12 games in all competitions, after 11 straight defeats, and Dangerfield said he was delighted to put their run of losses to an end.

“I was over the moon with the performance level, as I’d challenged the lads to focus on the job at hand, as well as put on a performance for the Boxing Day crowd that have made the effort to come watch us,” he said.

“Which in turn was brilliant end to our recent run of results.”

Dangerfield hailed Lewis Chappell after his hat-trick.

It is Chappell’s second treble for the Cheesemen after scoring three against Tytherington Rooks in February.

“He was magnificent,” Dangerfield added.

“He’s genuinely our first defender, so much of our good play is because of him with and without the ball.

“All three goals showed the variation of finishing ability he has.”

Dangerfield also said he was “just as happy” with the other scorers.

Morgan Bacon helped himself to two as well as headers from Ryan Eardley and Toby Hucker completed the rout.

Dangerfield said: “Morgs has had a dry spell recently and really earned what he got yesterday and Eards scoring a header and Toby standing in at centre back yesterday scoring with his head too was just the cherry on the cake.”

It is the first time since September 11, 2020, Cheddar have scored seven or more goals when they beat Wincanton Town 7-1.

And Dangerfield said their victory was also a first for him.

“It’s the first time in my tenure that we’ve scored that many and kept a clean sheet to have a full seven-goal swing, which is fantastic,” he added.

“As much as you’ve just got to beat what’s put in front of you, Boxing Day was more about the level of performance required to compete at this level, which has been missing from our game in recent games.

“So, this is definitely a platform to build on going into the new year.”
