Uhlsport Somerset Premier Division: Uphill Castle 1-2 Chard Town

Uphill Castle put in an improved performance but were ultimately defeated by Chard Town on the 3g pitch at the Optima Stadium on Saturday.

Chard started on the front foot and with only a minute on the clock a spectacular volley from Joe Chamberlain rattled the crossbar.

Uphill Castle raised their game and were creating lots of chances but not scoring.

With 30m gone some great play by Chard put Joe Chamberlain in on the left, unselfishly he squared a perfect ball for Jordan Clapp to score.

Again Uphill Castle pressed and created chances but Jason "The Cat" Contreras kept Chard in the game with safe hands.

That meant at the break the score remained 0-1 in favour of the Robins.

Uphill Castle started the second half with belief again but still couldn't get the equaliser.

After 53m with his back to goal Jordan Clapp headed the ball over for Joe Chamberlain again not going for goal he squared it for Max Westlake to put into the net.

Uphill Castle made some changes and started putting Chard under a lot of pressure but again Jason Contreras was spectacular between the posts.

Uphill Castle found the back of the net, but the scorer was ruled to be in an offside position.

Homer changed the line-up with Boyland and the Boards, awesome subs to bring on. Olly strengthening the midfield and Will and James Boyland creating spaces up front.

Again Uphill Castle never gave up and deep into time added on, six minutes and they were rewarded with a goal in the 94th minute after a mix up in the defence, left the attacker with a free header.

That late goal was not enough though and the final score was 1-2 to the Robins who had earned the win.

All in all it was an entertaining game of football from both teams and a well controlled game from the referee.

Next week Chard are away again this time in the Uhlsport Premier and First Division cup Quarter Final against Chilcompton.
