Somerset County League champions St Andrews booked their place in this season’s semi-finals with a crushing victory over Nailsea on Saturday.

The following day, they completed a clean sweep of all the weekend rinks when they demolished Purnell by 74 shots in the Wessex League.

Against Nailsea, Sam Stocker’s home rink topped 50 shots, while Brian Reeves finished just four short of the half-century. It was tighter away, but Saints won both, stretching their lead in the league to 25 points.

At home to Purnell in the Wessex, Darrell Johnston’s rink went 24-0 ahead, winning by 29 shots. Away, a tenth-end seven enabled Lee Stocker’s quartet to stretch clear and Sam Stocker was always in command as he won by 17.

The Stockers had two epic matches during the week. They came back from 2-12 down to beat Clevedon’s international duo Pip and Stef Branfield in the national Family Pairs.

Then, they were very unlucky to lose on an extra end in the Somerset County pairs when opposing skip Matt Hamilton knocked a toucher into the ditch right next to the jack with the Stockers holding two very close shots.

Tim Wyatt and Becky McMillan edged a one-end play-off to beat Saints’ clubmates Steve Davies and Barrie Forse in the National Open Pairs.
