Regional 1 South West: Matson 38-12 Weston-super-Mare

Weston-super-Mare RFC were on the receiving end of another defeat at the weekend away from home against Matson RFC.

In the match in the Regional One South West, at the end of the 80 minutes the score line read 38-12 in favour of the hosts.

It was a tough outing for Weston, who in fact recorded their last win against Matson back in October 2023.

That means since that win, the side have gone ten games now without a win in the league competition and they sit in bottom place in the table with 8 league points.

The two tries that Weston did score in this match came early on as they put up a fight in the first half.

Tom Sugg scored first in the eighth minute followed by Jay Davis on the 18 minute mark, however the home side were able to take control in the second half and run away with the win.

Weston-super-Mare AFC: Sam Coles, Gary Carpenter, Ollie Streeter, Joshua Gardner, Ash Russell, Callum Bliss-Climo, Jay Davis, Tom Sugg, Dan Lomax, George Nuttycombe, Dom Marshall, Cameron Maslen, Huw Morgan, Bradley Mcpate, Chris Young.

Substitutes (All used): Charlie Owens, Kieran Broomsgrove, Stephen Terera.

It wont get any easier for Weston either as up next for them is a home match against league leaders Devonport Services.

That match is on Saturday, February 3 and a large crowd would help Weston in the match so why not get down and support the team.

Elsewhere at the weekend, Weston's Second XV (United) were also beaten at the weekend.

In their match in the Counties 2 Tribute Somerset, Weston lost at home 29-34 against Imperial RFC.

It was a close battle and despite defeat, the Seconds picked up two value bonus points which leaves them in 11th place in the league table.

Tries came from Ollie Caton, Sam Hedges, Pj Grimes with Archie Tilsley converting two of them and adding more points from a penalty kick.

Weston United came close to making it back-to-back wins as they led visitors Imperial 29-24 with ten minutes left to play at the Recreation Ground.

But Imperial were not prepared to settle for a losing bonus point as they scored two late unconverted tries to snatch the game to complete a season's double over the Seasiders.
