Congratulations are in order for Weston-super-Mare Amateur Boxing Club schools boxer Shavarrna Russell.
She put in an amazing performance at the weekend, winning a very competitive bout against a strong opponent from Sturminster Newton by split decision.
Shavarrna was still strong in the final round where a standing count was dished out 10 seconds from the end and despite being new to the sport, she remains undefeated.
Coach Carl Fox said: “We are all particularly proud of Shavarrna's achievement tonight, she gave away weight and her opponent had been in with some top competition at the European Golden girls tournament in Sweden recently, where she came away with a silver.”
Club Secretary and Coach Ross Grindrod added: “Shavarrna is an Absolut coaches dream to coach, she listens very well to instruction and her work rate is second to non.
"You can tell she has a hunger and drive to win, she trains like a beast and is non stop. As a club we are also very proud of Coach Mel who has shown a huge amount of commitment in taking boxers like Shavarrna around the country to train."
