Weston-super-Mare Vets 33-12 Hornets Vets

The most eagerly awaited fixture of the season local rugby season took place over Easter as old enemies clashed again.

Weston Vets last met the Hornets Vets a year ago at The Nest and came away with the bragging rights after a hard-fought encounter.

The Weston side were committed to retaining these, but the Hornets Vets arrived grim-faced with every intention of reversing the result and swilling beer in the Weston Clubhouse.

Paul Sprague opened the scoring under the posts with Lloyd Jones collecting the extras, to make it 7-0.

Chris Young crossed over soon after with Jones converting again to double the lead and before half time Tom Wheatley went over and it was converted to make it 21-0 at the break.

In the second period, Hornets started the better of the two sides and the fly-half took advantage, kicking through with nice footballing skills, on two occasions to score under the posts in 45 minutes and again in 48 minutes to bring it to 21-12.

However a second try for Young and the final try of the game from Roger Drabble sealed a win for Weston Vets.
