Weston’s Clarence Bowling Club was one of many to open their outdoor greens for the summer season this weekend.

The bowling gods were kind and with a nice warm and sunny day Clarence Bowling Club players and members enjoyed the celebrations.

After a few drinks it was the first competition of the day, the Spider, with Jan Field winning this year’s edition of the competition.

There then came nine rinks of triples played over ten-ends, the greens were running quite well despite being known to get heavy at this time of the season though the line was the trickier to find than normal.

After the game a quick trip to the bar was then followed by a three-course meal prepared by the catering team of Carol and Mick Edlin, alongside Carol and Ken Marshall and many more helpers.

There were two special guests on the top table; firstly Alan Richardson, the club’s longest serving member who also supplied the wine for the dinner.

James Harwood from club sponsors Optika Opticians was the other guest of honour for the evening.

The meal ended a great day with new and old members introducing themselves and becoming teammates for the first time, and the club would like to give a special thanks to Les Lakey and Allan Cord for running the bar.
