Weston-super-Mare AFC have announced their second ever celebrity charity match at The Optima Stadium.

The match, which is hosted in partnership with Sellebrity Soccer, will take place on April 24th and is raising money for The Liam Shepherd Foundation.

The local group was set up in memory of Liam Shepherd, a player from the Weston AFC Academy that passed away in 2021, and they now organise events or promote achievements to raise money for local and national charities.

Celebrities like Calum Best, Dean Gaffney, and Dan Osborne will be lighting up the pitch to raise money from the game, which will also go to charity Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood.

Best spoke ahead of the charity game: “I’m very excited to be playing in the charity match at Weston for a second time, it’s always good get the boots on and we’re raising money at the same time.”

“I played in the last match we did at Weston in memory of Liam and the crowd that day was fantastic so looking forward to being back again.

“What makes me proud is that we get to play football and have a great day and the most vital part of this is we remember a wonderful you boy Liam and raise vital funds for the charity.”

Tickets can be purchased online here for £12, and will be available until 5pm of the 24th, but won’t be available at the turnstiles.
