Weston’s Clarence Bowling Club had their opening match of the season’s summer play this weekend and were dominant in a 94-61 win.

A pre-season friendly which was supposed to be an away fixture became a home match due to a waterlogged green at oppositions club Bridgwater.

And it was a great a start for Clarence`s 2024 summer as they went on to win four of the five rinks of the day.

It was a great performance from the Clarence team, which was made up of Martin Harryman, Alistair Jones, Shelley Owen and Skip B. Benstead, and it was only the penultimate end that was truly competitive.

The home team went into the fourth end 2-1 up knowing a win would give them the match a round early.

They found themselves five balls up with two to play, but they then dropped three shots and on the last end were just two the advantage

But Skip Benstead stepped and shot well, making sure his team took the end by one and securing them the match.

They then went on to win the final rink and finish the victory at 4-1.

St Georges Day was also good fun down at Clarence this year thanks to organiser Ken Marshall, with four teams representing the four Home Nations.

Wales became this year's Champions followed closely by Scotland, Ireland and England last.
