Berrow FC’s U13 girls are celebrating a fantastic end to their first ever season of football.

The team was started only a year ago and has ended their first season fifth in the table and with two players in the top five league scorers.

The squad was founded before the 2023/24 with only seven of eight girls in the team who had never played football, but the numbers quickly grew under the expert tutelage of coaches Mark Nielson and Ollie Taylor to a group of 20 keen and skilled footballers.

The team finished fifth in the U13s Somerset Girls League after recording seven wins in 18 games, and strikers Halle and Holly both finished in the top five of the golden boot race.

Halle scored a great 15 goals in 13 games and Holly scored a whopping 28 goals in 18 games, numbers Premier League strikers would be proud of.

Coach Mark Nielsen was proud of his squad and spoke about their achievements.

He said: “The girls play an entertaining brand of football and score plenty of goals, with the two girls finishing in the top 5 goalscoring chart scoring 43 goals between them.

“The highlight has to be just last week, beating our most local rivals Axbridge 6-2, a team who beat us twice this time last year when we were just getting started.

“The girls have paved the way for two new Berrow girls teams to be added to the club set up for the coming season.”
