Weston-super-Mare CC’s first XI welcomed Clevedon CC this weekend in the Premier Two Bristol/Somerset Division, but Weston were unable to face up to their local rivals’ batting attack and lost by seven wickets.

Weston batted first and it wasn’t long before opener Robert Turner was dismissed for a duck by Matthew Carpenter via a Will Plummer catch.

Fellow opener Shabel Ahmed followed soon after for nine runs, having been removed by the same Clevedon combination, leaving the team 14-2.

Dexter Trego came in at three and put on his team’s best performance with the bat after building a steady innings that saw him hit 48 off 75 balls, until he too was sent back to the changing rooms by the Carpenter-Plummer duo.

Lachie Bailey had already added his 11 runs by this point and Caleb Williams contributed 31 from his 50-ball stint, along with 18 apiece from Jack Lofthouse and Matt Knight who helped take their team’s total to 156 all out after 46.1 overs.

Clevedon were given a revised target of 125 runs from 34 overs, and they set to work immediately.

41 from Tyler Leaman, 34* from Bayley Wiggins, and 31 from Louie Woodlands helped Clevedon reach the needed total in 25.4 overs to give the visitors the seven-wicket win.
