St Andrews Bowling Club enjoyed a successful week against Nailsea, winning two out of three national matches.

They started the series with an emphatic victory in the rescheduled midweek Top Club tie, which had been postponed due to an electricity outage at their clubhouse.

The Saints showcased their dominance from the outset, winning both singles matches comfortably.

Tim Wyatt and Becky McMillan also overpowered their opponents in the pairs.

Phil Villis and his triple were 18-0 up after just six ends and won by 30, while another six helped the rink finish nine shots up, completing a clean sweep for Saints.

Jill Bishop made her return after injury problems in the rink.

Newcomer Tom Couston made a winning debut in one of the away rinks as Saints beat Nailsea by 36 shots in the mixed Egham Trophy.

He played in Phil Villis’s rink, which had yet another six as they won by 13.

The home rinks were in form, winning by a total of 33 shots as Saints went through to the second round against North Wilts on Sunday, November 15.

However, Saints women, national semi-finalists last year in the Yetton Plate, were knocked out at the first stage this time, losing by two against Nailsea.

A brilliant final wood by Nailsea away skip Helen Naunton settled a tight match.

Meanwhile, St Andrews member Nick Sell played his first game as indoor county president for Somerset away to Berkshire.

He was accompanied by clubmates Craig Walker and Lee and Sam Stocker.
