The Alleycats defeated the Choppers in the final of the Central League’s George Davis Cup.
THE Central Skittles League George Davis Cup final took place at the Regency Pub between the Alleycats and Choppers.
Choppers got off to a flyer in the first set, thanks to John Webber (50), taking the set by 14 pins. Alleycats soon took control of the second set with help from Julian Tanner (54) and won the set by 25 pins.
Both teams showed their nerves in the third set, spares from John Bastin (54) and Jon Blackhurst (49) helped to a very close set with the Choppers taking it by one pin.
Going into the last set with a 10-pin advantage, the Alleycats didn’t get off to a great start which helped the Choppers pull five pins back.
In the last hand, Alleycats hit a 37 with spares from Brent Williams (50) and Steve Barker (57). Choppers battled on with help from Phil Dean (55) as the Alleycats took the set by 11 pins and the game by 21 (544-523), which secured their third victory in the last four years.
The Central League would like to thank the Regency Pub for the use of the alley.
This year’s end-of-season presentation evening will be held at the Grand Pier on May 24.
Entertainment will be by Steve Mitchell and his six-piece band Replay. Tickets (£22.50) can be bought from Derek Kent.
