CHEDDAR Tennis Club’s Amy Rossiter (13) was the star of the club’s winter junior open tournament, winning the final event of the four-day competition.
She won the 14U girls’ singles against top seed Erika Cotton of Wells. Erica raced through the first set and was 1-0 up in the second when a sharp shower forced the players off court.
When they resumed 15 minutes later, the tables were turned. Amy took the next four games to level at a set all and then won the tie break to clinch the title. Iona Clive, also from Wells, finished third.
The whole grade 4 tournament was a great success, with players from counties right across southern England and Wales taking part, including a strong representation from Somerset.
Cheddar’s next major open junior tournament will be August 6-8. Meanwhile, normal club play, league matches and coaching classes are in full swing for adults and juniors. For more information, contact secretary Jennie Colton on 01934 742703 or visit www.cheddartennisclub.co.uk
