Anglers were keen to get back in action in recent Shiplate Farm Fisheries competitions.

The Costcutter match on the Main Lake at Shiplate Farm Fisheries was in bright sunshine most of the day, but still chilly in the breeze.

It was the first Costcutter of the year and was met with much excitement and anticipation.

Overall winner Roy Ede on peg 11 bagged up an amazing 38lb 10oz of silvers to win the match. Second was Nigel Wickham (peg 15), 27lb 11oz, with George Fletcher (peg 3), 27lb 4oz in third.

Silvers went to Mark Walsh (peg 4), 16lb 4oz, Mike Nicholls (peg 1), 14lb 14oz and Gary Flinders (peg 14), 14lb 10oz.

After a few snowbound days, the fishery reopened to greet some cabin fevered anglers for an open match on the Hawthorns, with surprising results considering the last week’s extreme cold temperatures.

Results: Alan Healey (peg 8), 55lb 14oz; Ray Wickham (peg 1), 15lb 2oz; Steve Howell (peg 3), 11lb 7oz. Silvers went to Nigel Wickham (peg 6), 9lb 11oz.
