WINDSURFING - THE Axbridge Animals have triumphed again, beating two other teams of young windsurfers, all aged 15 and under, in the second Team15 inter-club event at South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre (SCOEC).

THE Axbridge Animals have triumphed again, beating two other teams of young windsurfers, all aged 15 and under, in the second Team15 inter-club event at South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre (SCOEC).

The Savage family again proved their windsurfing expertise, with Alex (13) Izzy (12) and Georgina (10) from Weston, all on the podium for the Animals, despite Georgina's struggle with rig problems in the second race, which she completed.

Lou Brown (10) dominated the 4.5 fleet for the Animals while Jack Bassett (9) showed a great deal of talent and potential in winning the 3.5 fleet and helping his team, Croft Farm Flyers, into second place.

The Croft Farm team are proving a significant challenge for the Animals. The 5.5m fleet was a fierce battle between Alex Savage and Croft Farm's Ben Boulson (14), at the end only one point separated them, so the contest to become regional champions is still wide open.

T15 organiser Ady Davies was impressed with the determination of all the sailors: "Due to the shape of SCOEC lake, with an island in the middle and surrounded by trees, the wind is very patchy and gusty and all the sailors, from the Animals, the Flyers and the SCOEC Screamers, showed great skill in completing all the races in very trying conditions."

The next round of the T15 inter-club series will be held at Croft Farm Leisure and Water Park, Tewkesbury, on Sunday, August 2.

Supported by industry leaders Neilson, Tushingham/Starboard, Windsurf magazine, Boards magazine and Neil Pryde, T15 was set up by the RYA to help make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at a grass roots level. Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches.

The T15 inter-club championship takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills. Kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low - to find your local club visit www.team15.org.uk or contact the RYA 0845 345 0400.
