SEA ANGLING - FIFTY-ONE years ago, Weston Sea Angling Association held their first RNLI Open. Entrance was 12 shillings and six pence (62.5 new pennies).
This Sunday, November 1, sees the club's 51st annual event on Weston beach. The entry fee is a little higher than in 1958, but so are the prizes!
Last year, the lifeboatmen estimated they had already received over 20,000 from WSMSAA over the years, and were pleased to receive a further 600 from the 2008 event.
Helped by kind donors and in particular, a new chief sponsor, PRV Engineering, Pontypool, there will be an excellent prize table this year.
Fishing will be from 3.15 to 7pm on Weston Beach. Sign in is from 12.45pm onwards at the Clubhouse, south end of Marine Parade.
Prizes will be cash of 200, 100 and 50 plus many other valuable items. Entry is 10 for adults, 8 for OAPs, 5 for juniors with a 2 optional pool (adults) for heaviest flat fish and round fish.
Presentation of prizes to winners and proceeds to RNLI will be at the Royal Hotel
The club hopes that all anglers will try to come and support this great cause! For other information phone Terry Giles on 01934 511639.
