WINSCOMBE Tennis Club is planning a bumper crop of coaching during the autumn, beginning with a barbeque on Friday evening to give everyone a chance to meet the coaches who will be leading the sessions.

They will be at the courts for two hours from 6pm to chat informally to members, answer questions and discuss individual coaching needs.

The team is from Lympsham-based DC Tennis, who also serve the Cheddar, Wells, Street Victoria, and Somerton clubs as well as a number of schools throughout the area.

After Friday evening's informal social event, seven-week coaching courses for both juniors, from age four upwards, and seniors start at Winscombe next Thursday evening, September 10, while a series of sessions for ladies is also planned in the mornings.

Regular pay-and-play coaching for youngsters, led by Stephen Pearce, is due to start again on Sunday mornings from September 20, with hour-long sessions for five to seven-years-olds, eight and nine-years-olds and those over 10.

More details are available at the group's website, www.dctennis.co.uk or they can be contacted by email at deancornish@aol.com and by phone on 01934 750402.

Meanwhile, the finals of the Winscombe club's mixed, men's and ladies' tournaments are due to be held this month, and several social events are being planned.
