CHEDDAR Tennis Club recently held a combined annual awards night and quiz evening at the White Hart in Cheddar.

Over 40 club members squeezed into the upstairs function room to meet the challenge of an excellent quiz run by Mike Conroy. Then, after a light supper in the interval, club chairman Peter Colton presented trophies to the annual tournament winners and successful team captains.

2011 has been a particularly rewarding year for the club with good membership numbers at all ages, children and adults, for coaching, social tennis and competitive matches.

In the North Somerset League, the club received six trophies, for winning Divisions 4 and 7 in the winter league and, in the summer for winning ladies Division 2 and men’s Divisions 4, 7 and 8.

The best performances, though, were the mixed A team being runners-up in winter Division 2 and the ladies’ A team runners-up in summer Division 1.

Individual awards were presented to the winners of the club’s annual closed tournament - men’s singles: James Knight; ladies’ singles: Amy Rossiter; men’s doubles: Hal Davidson and Grant Garge; ladies’ doubles: Amy Rossiter and Laura Sheffield; mixed doubles: John Hodgetts and Claire Lacy. Finally, the Ace Service Award was presented to Arthur Brown for service to the club in running the men’s and mixed league teams for a number of years.
