Uphill Badminton Club held its annual meeting, with awards presented to winners.
UPHILL Badminton Club held its AGM at Weston Golf Club.
Chairman, Rob Morray, thanked all members for their support throughout the year and in particular the committee members, but next year more effort would be needed to keep the club in the pre-eminent position it now holds.
Captain, Mark Edwards, said how well all the league teams had done this year, with the A team being league champions for the 10th successive year and the men’s second team winning Division 2.
Next season, the club will have teams in mixed divisions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and two teams in men’s Division 1, giving players of all abilities a good chance to play league badminton. He thanked all the captains for the efficient way they had run their teams.
Treasurer, Paul Edwards, reported a small loss for the club, thanks to events run by the social section with raffles, quizzes and sales plus a highly-successful open badminton tournament which was handicapped and split into two ability levels.
The current club officers were all prepared to stand for a further year and were elected en-block. Brian Hadley and Bill Ponting were elected on to the selection committee and Robin Curry agreed to continue as tournament organiser.
The clubs trophies and certificates for the season were presented. The main awards were - Junior Topshot Trophy (most games per match won in senior league matches): Rohan Weeks; Minchington Trophy (most points gained by a lady in club tournaments): Alice Brett; Slimeridge Shield (most points gained by a man in club tournaments): Mark Edwards; the Roy Curry Trophy (clubperson of the year): Caroline and John Poole.
This friendly club always welcomes new members and organises a variety of social events during the year. The summer club social badminton is now underway and anyone interested in joining the club should visit the website www.uphillbadminton.co.uk or phone Paul Edwards on 07866 946422.
