Axbridge Animals, a Team15 junior windsurfing club based at Cheddar reservoir, became national champions after beating 15 other clubs to the title.

Local youngsters from Clevedon, Backwell and Portishead were part of the Axbridge Animals squad, a Team15 junior windsurfing club based at the Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club on Cheddar reservoir, which beat 15 other clubs from across the UK to become windsurfing national champions.

The 11 youngsters were among over 190 windsurfers who travelled to Rutland Water in the Midlands for the championships and Team15 Champions Cup.

The Animals are pictured with RYA instructors Keith Shepherd, from Portishead and Libby Rodgers, from Clevedon (in front holding Champions Cup) and with Bryony Shaw (back left) - Beijing 2008 Olympic bronze medallist and three-time Olympian.

Notable places included: Millie Stoyles (Cheddar) second overall (first girl) 3.5 fleet; Ben Stoyles (Cheddar) second open sailor (14th overall) 3.5 fleet; Paige Cox (Portishead) third place Techno award (seventh overall) 3.5 fleet; Ruby Owen (Axbridge) fourth overall (first girl) 4.5 fleet; Guy Owen (Axbridge) first overall boy 5.8 fleet; Toby Dawkins (Wedmore) third boy (fourth overall) 5.8 fleet; Danny Stewart (Backwell) joint sixth in 5.8 fleet.
