Weston Hockey Club’s Back2Hockey event proved popular, with more than 40 attending at Priory School.

Despite the pouring rain, more than 40 people attended Weston Hockey Club’s inaugural Back2Hockey event.

The session, which was held at Weston’s home pitch at Priory School, consisted of some basic skills practice and fun games that were enjoyed by all, despite the wet conditions.

Sophie Luxon, who used to play with GB and England goalkeeper Maddie Hinch when they were at school together in Taunton said: “Watching my old school friend win gold in the Olympics inspired me to dust off the cobwebs from my old stick and come back to the sport I loved when I was younger.

“Everyone at the club made me feel really welcome and it was great to see so many people, both male and female and of all different ages playing together in such a fun environment.”

Weston Hockey Club would like to thank Vanessa Mawford for helping to run the session and Priory School for their continued support and help in developing the club’s facilities and offering to the local community.

On the back of the success of this event, Weston will now be holding a Back2Hockey day on the fourth Sunday of every month and more details can be found on their Facebook page @WSMHC or their twitter page @WsMHockeyClub.

Training for the ladies teams will be held every Wednesday at Priory from 6.30-8pm and the men’s teams from 8-9.30pm. Junior training resumes on September 16, also at Priory from 6.30-7.30pm.
