AFTER the completion of their final match of the 2009 Veteran's Tennis League, Backwell finished as the runners-up in Division 1 after gaining four points in their final match of the season against Cotham.
A poor start to the season saw the club near the foot of the table, but fine performances against Knowle, David Lloyd and a superb 8-2 victory against the champions Bristol saw the village team make a late run to claim second place.
"It was a fantastic effort with a total of 10 players representing the club over the season," said Steve Brooks.
"It was our first season in the top flight after promotion last year and who knows, may be next year we will go one better
