BACKWELL School is proud to announce that their Under-13s boys' tennis team won the South West of England and Wales regional quarter-final of the British Schools tennis competition.

They beat Cowbridge Sports College, the Welsh Schools Champions, in the morning match and then Sir Tommy Rich's Grammar School, Gloucester, in the afternoon final.

They have now won nine matches in this competition since April, beating Bristol Grammar School, QEH, Clifton College, Colstons, John Cabot Academy, Millfield, Trinity College, Cowbridge and STRs.

They are now down to the last four schools in Britain, and play in the national finals over the weekend of December 5 and 6 at the Bolton Indoor Arena. They are the South West England and Wales representatives and will play the winning school from the South East, Midlands and North England and Scotland regions.

The team is James Harwood, Finnian Bedwell, Kristian Newman and Jimmy Hardiman. They have now played and beaten some of the best boys and schools in Britain and so far have done so comfortably. They have been a real credit to the school and we are justly proud of them.
