The new angling season is nearly here.
WITH the glorious 16th fast approaching, the angling traditionalists will be getting ready for the opening of the rivers.
The River Axe at Bleadon can produce some great sport, with roach and bream being the dominate residents. Most tactics work there, waggler, stick, feeder, pole and just the straight lead. Baits are the usual, with caster and worm working for the bream. Later in the year, the pike will give you some hot action.
The water comes under the Weston Angling Association and tickets must be obtained before fishing, either a day ticket or yearly book, from Weston Angling Centre, Veals of Highbridge or Burnham Angling Centre.
