A late flurry of wickets by Belvedere was not enough to save them from defeat against Castle Cary.

BELVEDERE entertained Castle Cary at Priory School and were asked to bat first on a damp wicket after losing the toss.

Runs were hard to come by and after 10 overs the score reached 17-1, with the loss of Chadwick. Sam Neate increased the tempo with a brisk 30, but the bowling was tight with wickets falling at regular intervals.

Other contributions were made by Mike Hosey (15), Kev Crockett (19), Brad Ashfield (15), Jack Neville (15) and Brian Hosey (13 not out) as Belvedere’s innings ended on 133-9.

Castle Cary’s openers started cautiously and took the score to 65 before Paul Davis (12-3-23-1) claimed the first wicket which was well caught by Chadwick.

Cary were well placed at 100-1 when the introduction of Neil Chadwick (4-19) and the re-introduction of Sam Mccrea (2-37) caused alarm bells, and with great catches held by Neville and Neate, the tide was turning.

However, Castle Cary got over the line in the 44th over winning by three wickets.

Eurocams joint man of the match went to Neil Chadwick and Sam Neate.
