Alleycats upset the odds

Alleycats defeated the favourites St Johns B in the final of the George Davis Cup held at the Social Club, Weston.

THE grand finale took place between two of the top teams in the Weston Central Skittles League, in the George Davis Cup final at the Social Club, Weston.

St Johns B and Alleycats battled it out in an exciting match. The first two sets were one-sided in favour of St Johns, pulling 23 pins with some great skittling from Paul Stewart (54).

The third set was close until Alleycats managed to pull out six pins on the last hand, taking the set by four pins. The fourth set started badly for St Johns, losing eight pins on the first hand.

Alleycats then took control of the game with help from Geoff Poole and Steve Barker getting a spare each. Alleycats went on to pull 34 pins on the set, which gave them a victory by 15 pins on the night.

Scores: St Johns B 481 (Paul Stewart 54), Alleycats 496 (Steve Barker 47).

The Central League would like to remind all teams wishing to attend this year’s end of season presentation on the Grand Pier on May 25, that tickets are selling fast, priced at £22 for a three-course meal and live band Lipinski.

WESTON Central League pairs and individual finals – pairs quarter-finals: J Tanner and J Bastin (92) beat S Malone and D Pigott (78); T Urch and B Williams (86) beat D Parker and P Angear (80); G Poole and S Barker (100) beat A Brueford and G Little (99); M Ashmore and J Lane beat K Dyer and C Allcock (no show).

Semi-finals: Urch and Williams (92) beat Tanner and Bastin (92) in a play-off (13-12); Poole and Barker (93) beat Ashmore and Lane (90). Final: Poole and Barker (Alleycats) 89, Urch and Williams (Alleycats) 88.

Individuals: J Bastin 49, R Strick 45; J Dean 42, L Loveridge 28; J Mousley 49, D Blackhurst 58. Bastin beat Mousley in a play-off. Final: D Blackhurst (Choppers) 46, J Bastin (Alleycats) 38.
