Central League take a first leg advantage agains the Wrington Vale

The Weston Central Skittles League took a 59-pin first leg advantage over the Wrington Vale League at the Churchill Club.

The first leg of the inter-league game between the Central League and the Wrington Vale League took place at the Churchill Club.

After the disappointment of losing to the District League, the Central boys bounced back with an outstanding team performance against a strong Wrington vale side on a difficult front pin alley.

The first set went the way of the Central with some good skittling by the whole set by 44 pins. John Bastin top scored with an excellent 52, with Wayne Harding hitting 45 for Wrington.

The second set could not quite push on from the good start and even though there was some steady skittling throughout, the Wrington side clawed back 16 pins. Paul Hawkins with 35, topping for the Central and A Machin with 43 for Wrington.

Heading into the last set with only a 28 lead, it was all to play for and the Central boys did not shy away from the task. A 43 hand down in the fourth down was decisive and resulted in winning the set by 31 pins to give an overall first leg lead of 59 pins.

Geoff Poole with 50 and an outstanding display of front pin skittles by Neil Middle who finished with 59, while Keith Hann top scored for Wrington with 41.

Central would like to thank the Churchill Club for the food and hospitality and the league will welcome Wrington Vale to the Devonshire Road Social Club for the return leg on March 3.
