ST ANDREWS ladies played the first round of the Yetton Trophy against Donyatt and came away with a close victory.

At home, both rinks had tight games, never more than three shots between the teams on Meg Favis’s rink and Saints got home by one shot. On the other rink, Jackie Ware’s rink rallied to win by seven.

At Donyatt, there were fantastic fightbacks from both rinks. Ann Campbell was 20-5 down after five ends and Monica Pattenden’s rink was 20-10 down at 10 ends.

Both rinks rallied in the last half of the game, Campbell only losing by one shot and Pattenden won by three shots.

The men were involved in the Denny Plate against Whitchurch. Gordon Wride’s rink were successful at home with a six shot win and Tony Steer’s rink just lost by one shot.

At Whitchurch, Don Bailey’s rink struggled and lost by 17 shots, but Barry Forse’s four played well on an uneven green and at 21 ends finished with a 12 shot victory. This meant the game was tied, unfortunately Saints lost out on the extra end.

St Andrews competed in the Egham Trophy, a mixed competition against Minehead. Saints emerged winners in a close game.

Both rinks struggled away and lost out by 18 shots overall. However, at home both rinks had good wins. Don Bailey’s rink won by 12 shots and Barry Forse’s by eight shots, which was just enough to take Saints through to the next round.

Teams are now competing for £200 prize money and the Pro Wash Shield which has been kindly donated by Brian Reeves.

In the latest round of matches, the Jackpots cruised to a comfortable win over the Hunters and have now won all their matches. Meanwhile, the Chasers also retained their unbeaten status after a win over the Fillies, for whom Pat Uglow offered stern resistance.

Malcolm Campbell, Will Harrison and Barrie Forse moved the Yankees ahead of the chasing pack into third place with a narrow victory over the Classics, whose skip Andrew Owens was in sparkling form.
